Verifying viral July 4th photos, turning outrage into action
Some of the photos from July 4th,2026 in our nation’s capital this past weekend speak 1000 words. This juxtaposition of images 100 years apart from Jamar Tisby are chilling. How will we respond? How are we proactively taking action to build community, advocate for our values, and attend to our own self-care in these perilous times?
Among many things, we need media literacy (including “AI literacy”) to verify images, memes, and claims, and find / share links to original sources
The first photo was taken on July 4 by Reuters photographer Cheney Orr, and depicts a Black woman sitting on a Washington Metro train while surrounded by members of the Patriot Front, a white nationalist group
